Who Makes It

Simply Nourish is a PetSmart-exclusive house brand of dog and cat food, including dry and wet food, toppers and treats. PetSmart markets it under the tagline "Natural Made Simple" and says the recipes use real meat, fish or poultry and contain no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives. ¹

Where It Is Made

PetSmart does not name the manufacturer on its Simply Nourish product pages. A 2021 FDA recall notice identified Wet Noses Natural Dog Treat Company of Monroe, Washington, as the company that recalled Simply Nourish frozen dog food, which indicates that at least the frozen line was made by an outside company. ^{2, 3}

History

PetSmart launched Simply Nourish in 2011 as a natural pet food sold only in its stores. PetSmart itself has been privately held since BC Partners led a buyout of the company in 2015. ^{4, 5}

Worth Knowing

In August 2021, about 51,000 packages of Simply Nourish frozen dog food sold at PetSmart were recalled because of elevated vitamin D levels. The recall was traced to a vitamin mix supplier reducing its dosage without the change being caught. No illnesses had been reported when the recall was announced, and the FDA has since terminated the recall. ²
