Who Makes It

Farmina is an Italian, family-owned pet food company run by the Russo family, and its US arm is Farmina Pet Food USA. Vet Life is its line of therapeutic diets, which the company says are formulated for dermatological, renal, gastrointestinal, urinary and metabolic needs. ^{1, 2}

Where It Is Made

Farmina runs its own manufacturing plants and says on LinkedIn that it has four of them. In June 2025 it opened its first US plant, a $115 million, 150,000 square foot facility in Reidsville, North Carolina. When the company announced the North Carolina site in 2020, it said the site would make Natural & Delicious and Vet Life dry foods for dogs and cats. ^{3, 4, 5}

History

The company traces its roots to 1965, when Francesco Russo founded Russo Mangimi, an animal nutrition business in Italy. In 1999 his son, Dr. Angelo Russo, moved the business into pet food by working with Farmina, an English food research company. In December 2020 Farmina Pet Food USA named Reidsville, North Carolina, as its North American headquarters. ^{1, 5}

Worth Knowing

In March 2026, more than 8,000 22 pound bags of Farmina N&D Tropical Selection Salmon, Spelt, Oats and Tropical Fruits dog food were recalled because the back ingredient panel listed lamb while the front listed salmon. The FDA classified it as a low-risk Class III recall. In 2025 Farmina signed a national deal with MWI Animal Health to distribute Vet Life to US veterinary practices. ^{6, 2}
