Canidae Heartland adds four dry dog food recipes
The new line has three adult recipes and one puppy recipe, with chicken, salmon or lamb listed first.
What happened
Canidae announced Heartland in early August 2026, then promoted the line with a Walker Hayes song for National Dog Day on August 26. The song is the focus of that later announcement, but Heartland is a real food launch: Canidae describes four dry recipes, and Walmart lists them for sale.
The lineup includes Farm-Raised Chicken & Ancient Grains, Pacific Salmon & Ancient Grains and Countryside Lamb & Ancient Grains for adult dogs, plus a Farm-Raised Chicken & Ancient Grains puppy recipe. Canidae said Heartland was available at Walmart.com and select Walmart stores nationwide. Store selection may vary.
What is in the new line
Canidae says chicken, salmon or lamb is the first ingredient, depending on the recipe. It says the foods include grains sourced from farms using regenerative practices and are made without corn, wheat, soy, artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. The company also says it coats the kibble with live probiotics to support digestion. Those descriptions do not tell an owner everything in a particular bag.
The puppy recipe shows why the full label matters. Canidae lists deboned chicken first, followed by chicken meal, brown rice, barley and sorghum. It also lists pork meal farther down. An owner looking for a food without a particular animal ingredient should read the entire list, regardless of the protein named on the front.
What it means for Canidae owners
Heartland adds options to Canidae's range. The announcements do not say that existing Canidae recipes are changing or being discontinued. Our reviews cover other Canidae foods, but we have not reviewed these Heartland recipes. An owner feeding a food we review should compare that food's label with the specific Heartland bag rather than assume the recipes are alike.
Canidae says it donates 1% of every Heartland retail purchase to the American Red Cross. That partnership explains part of the promotion, but it does not change which recipe or life stage is appropriate for a dog.
What to check on the bag
Start with the nutritional adequacy statement and confirm that it matches your dog's life stage. Walmart describes the chicken, salmon and lamb recipes as adult foods and the separate chicken recipe as puppy food. Canidae says its puppy recipe is complete and balanced for puppies up to 12 months old.
Then compare the full ingredient list, guaranteed analysis, calories per cup and feeding guide with your dog's current food. A new recipe can have different ingredients and calorie density even when it carries the same brand name. Canidae advises a gradual change over 7 to 10 days for its puppy recipe. If your dog needs a tightly controlled diet, check the specific bag with your veterinarian before changing foods.
