The Honest Kitchen launches birthday cake and muffin mixes for dogs

What launched

The Honest Kitchen launched two Bake Mixes for dogs on July 28, 2026: Birthday Cake Mix made with Chicken & Blueberries and Muffin Mix made with Chicken, Apples & Cinnamon. Owners add eggs, water and olive oil, then bake the mixes at home. The brand lists each 7.5-ounce bag at $9.99. It says the mixes are available through its website, Chewy, Amazon, Petco and specialty pet retailers. Chewy also lists the cake mix.

This is a new treat format for the brand, rather than a new recipe in its regular meal lineup. Pet Food Processing reported the launch two days after the announcement.

What is in the mixes

Both ingredient lists begin with oats and chicken and include potatoes, flaxseed, eggs, sweet potatoes, baking powder and cinnamon. The cake mix adds bananas, blueberries and honey. The muffin mix adds apples and cranberries. The Honest Kitchen says the ingredients are human grade and that the mixes contain no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.

The preparation differs. The cake calls for two added eggs and bakes for 22 to 24 minutes. The muffin mix calls for one added egg, fills 12 muffin cups and bakes for 18 to 20 minutes. Both instructions say to let the baked treats cool before serving.

What it means for brand feeders

These mixes offer another way to give an Honest Kitchen treat. They are not presented as complete meals. Both product pages state that the mixes are intended for intermittent or supplemental feeding only. Owners feeding one of the brand’s regular foods should count a serving of cake or a muffin alongside the dog’s other treats, rather than use it in place of a meal.

What to check on the bag

Read the full ingredient list if your dog needs to avoid chicken, eggs, oats or any of the other listed ingredients. The baking directions also add eggs and olive oil, so the prepared treat contains more than the dry mix. Check the current bag for its ingredients and directions before baking.

The brand lists 171 calories per cake slice, based on one-eighth of a cake, and 188 calories per muffin. Its feeding directions cap the cake at one-eighth per 20 pounds of body weight per day and the muffins at one per 20 pounds per day. Portion size matters especially for a small dog: a whole slice or muffin may exceed the amount shown for that dog’s weight.
