All 20 Castor & Pollux recipes we review are absent from the brand site

What we found

On September 27, we checked the current Castor & Pollux range against the 20 recipes we review. None was listed. The brand’s former website now sends visitors to Merrick’s site, which presents Merrick foods rather than a Castor & Pollux range. Another dog food review site flagged Castor & Pollux foods as apparently discontinued in July 2024, so this is not evidence of a new change this week.

A missing brand listing does not establish when each recipe stopped being made or whether any store still has stock. We found no brand statement confirming a discontinuation date for all 20.

Which Organix recipes are gone from the brand site

The seven Organix dry foods in our reviews are absent: grain-free Organic Chicken & Sweet Potato, grain-free Organic Puppy, grain-free Organic Senior and grain-free Organic Small Breed; plus Organic Chicken & Oatmeal with Healthy Grains, Organic Puppy with Healthy Grains and Organic Small Breed with Healthy Grains. The missing listings cover both grain-free and grain-inclusive foods, including recipes labeled for puppies and seniors.

A retailer, Max Warehouse, marks its listing for Organix Chicken & Oatmeal dry dog food as discontinued. That is a retailer listing for one pack size, not a brand statement about every Organix recipe.

Which Pristine recipes are gone from the brand site

Nine Pristine dry foods we review are also absent: grain-free Free-Range Chicken & Sweet Potato with Raw Bites; grain-free Free-Range Chicken, Turkey & Lentil; grain-free Grass-Fed Beef & Sweet Potato with Raw Bites; grain-free Puppy Wild-Caught Salmon & Sweet Potato; grain-free Small Breed Grass-Fed Beef & Sweet Potato; grain-free Wild-Caught Salmon & Sweet Potato, both plain and with Raw Bites; Grass-Fed Beef & Oatmeal; and Wild-Caught Salmon & Oatmeal with Raw Bites.

The other four are Pristine grain-free bone broth toppers: Free-Range Chicken, Free-Range Turkey, Grass-Fed Beef, and Grass-Fed Beef seasoned with Turmeric. A topper is a different format from a dry food. Owners replacing one should check whether the new product is labeled as a complete food or as a topper.

What to check if you feed one

Match the exact recipe name on your bag with the names above, especially where plain and Raw Bites versions, grain-free and oatmeal versions, or puppy and small breed versions have similar names. Check the ingredient list, nutritional adequacy statement, feeding directions, best-by date and lot code on any bag you have. If your usual food is unavailable, check the label of any replacement before changing your dog’s meals. A similarly named food can use different ingredients or be intended for a different life stage.
