Who Makes It

Authority is PetSmart's private-label brand of dog and cat food and treats, and PetSmart is its only seller. Its dog food lines include Everyday Health, Sensitive Stomach & Skin, Digestive Support and Healthy Weight. PetSmart says the formulas are science-backed, developed with veterinarians and pet nutritionists, and made with no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives or chicken by-product meal. 1, 2

Authority labels say the food is made in the US, but the brand does not publicly name the plants that produce it. As a retailer, PetSmart has the food made by outside manufacturers rather than in plants of its own. 3, 4, 5

History

PetSmart was founded in 1986 and is based in Phoenix, Arizona. It began making private-label cat and dog food brands in 1992. BC Partners led a group that took PetSmart private in 2015. 6

Worth Knowing

In March 2007, several Authority wet dog and cat foods were recalled as part of the Menu Foods melamine recall. Review sites list no other Authority recalls since then. 2, 3
