Who Makes It
Cesar is a dog food brand owned by Mars, Incorporated and sold in the US through Mars Petcare. It is best known for small-breed wet food in peel-away trays, such as Classic Loaf in Sauce and Filets in Gravy, and it also sells dry food, toppers and the Simply Crafted line. 1, 2, 3
Where It Is Made
Petful reports that Cesar products are made in the United States by Mars Petcare, which runs its own plants, including a canning plant in Columbus, Ohio. 4
History
Cesar grew out of Kal Kan, a canned dog food Mars bought in the 1960s. Mars already used the Cesar name in Europe and Asia, and in the US its Pedigree Select line was renamed Cesar Select Dinners in the late 1990s. In September 2026 the brand rolled out a new logo and a pink signature color built around its longtime Westie mascot. 4, 5
Worth Knowing
In October 2016 Mars Petcare US voluntarily recalled a limited number of Cesar Classics Filet Mignon Flavor wet dog food because small pieces of plastic may have gotten into the food during production. The company said it had received no reports of injury or illness. 6, 7
