Who Makes It

Kirkland Signature is Costco Wholesale's store brand, and its dog food is sold mainly through Costco warehouses and costco.com. The range includes Kirkland Signature formulas for adults, puppies, small breeds and healthy weight, plus the Nature's Domain line, which Costco says includes grain free recipes with probiotics. 1, 2

Where It Is Made

Costco does not make the dog food itself; Kirkland Signature dog food is produced by the contract manufacturer Diamond Pet Foods, a Missouri company founded in 1970. Kirkland Signature dry dog food was among the products made at Diamond's Gaston, South Carolina plant that were recalled in 2012. 3, 4

History

Costco launched the Kirkland Signature label in 1995 to bring its various store brands under one name. The name comes from Kirkland, Washington, where Costco was headquartered before moving to Issaquah. 2, 5

Worth Knowing

In May 2012, Diamond Pet Foods recalled several Kirkland Signature dry dog foods, including the Adult Lamb, Rice and Vegetable and Adult Chicken, Rice and Vegetable formulas, because of possible Salmonella contamination linked to its Gaston, South Carolina plant. The recall was part of a larger Diamond recall covering several brands. 4
