Hill’s launches Science Diet refrigerated dog food rolls
Hill’s has introduced three refrigerated Science Diet recipes for adult dogs, with a rollout that began in July 2026.
What happened
Hill’s announced Science Diet Single Protein Dog Food Rolls on June 30, 2026, marking the brand’s entry into refrigerated fresh dog food. The rollout at pet specialty retailers began in July. Petco, PetSmart and Chewy now list the rolls, though availability may vary by location.
The three recipes are Chicken and Brown Rice, Beef and Carrot, and Lamb and Pumpkin. Hill’s lists 1, 3 and 5 pound rolls for each. They are gently steam cooked and sold from the refrigerator rather than the dry food aisle.
What is different
“Single Protein” refers to one animal protein species per recipe. It does not mean the food contains only one ingredient or that every bit of protein comes from meat. For example, Chewy’s Beef and Carrot ingredient list includes beef, beef lung, beef liver and beef plasma, along with tapioca starch, carrots and other ingredients.
Hill’s says the rolls are complete and balanced for adult maintenance. The brand also says their digestibility, omega-6 fatty acids and vitamin E support gut, skin and coat health. Those are Hill’s claims, not a reason to treat the rolls as a food for a medical condition. Hill’s says they are unsuitable for puppies, pregnant or nursing dogs, and dogs that need a veterinary therapeutic diet.
If your dog already eats Hill’s
The rolls add a refrigerated option to a feeding routine built around Hill’s dry or canned food. Hill’s says they can serve as a full meal, a mix-in or a topper. If you add a roll to your dog’s usual food, account for its calories and reduce the other food as needed. Hill’s advises moving to the new food gradually over seven days.
Our existing Hill’s reviews cover other foods, not these new rolls. A familiar brand name is no substitute for checking this recipe’s label. In particular, a dog eating a prescribed Hill’s diet should not be switched to an everyday Science Diet roll without discussing that change with their veterinarian.
What to check on the package
Read the full ingredient list, especially if your dog must avoid a particular animal protein. Check the nutritional adequacy statement for adult maintenance, the feeding guide and calories, then compare the recommended portion with what your dog currently eats. The moisture and fat figures on a refrigerated roll should not be compared directly with those on a bag of kibble without accounting for the different water content.
Also check the printed best before date and storage directions. Hill’s says to keep unopened rolls refrigerated below 40°F, avoid freezing them, and use an opened roll within five days while storing it covered or sealed in the refrigerator. That short window matters when choosing a roll size for a smaller dog.
