Kismet dog food arrives at PetSmart with three new freeze-dried toppers

Kismet is now sold in nearly 1,000 PetSmart stores, its first pet specialty retailer, and is adding Kismet Daily toppers that only PetSmart carries.

What happened

Kismet, the gut health dog food brand co-founded by Chrissy Teigen, John Legend and veterinarian Dr. Kwane Stewart, is now sold in nearly 1,000 PetSmart stores and on PetSmart's website. Pet Age reported the news on September 26, 2026, and said this is the first time the brand has been sold through a pet specialty retailer.

An Australian cattle dog noses into an opened delivery box on a terrazzo floor.

Kismet launched in May 2024. Until now, owners mostly bought it straight from the brand online. Pet Age also reported that Kismet's slow-cooked treats, which used to be sold only online, are now available at PetSmart.

What is on the shelf

The dry food line has not changed: there are still two recipes. PetSmart lists them as Chicken & Barley and Salmon & Rice, and Pet Age calls the second one Salmon & Brown Rice. According to Pet Age, both recipes list real animal protein as the first ingredient and include whole grain barley or brown rice, omega fatty acids, and a blend of prebiotics and probiotics. The brand says the recipes contain no corn, wheat, artificial flavors or artificial colors. Each bag also includes what the brand calls "the Nugs", which are freeze-dried pieces of meat and sweet potato.

Pet Age quotes the brand's claim that "96% of dogs showed improved gut health in 45 days" after switching to Kismet. That figure comes from the brand. We have not seen the study behind it, so we cannot say how it was run.

The new toppers

The new products are the Kismet Daily freeze-dried toppers, which PetSmart's site lists as Kismet Shakers. They come in 5.5 ounce containers in three versions. The Multivitamin formula lists chicken, sweet potato, salmon oil, chicken liver and flaxseed, followed by a long list of added vitamins and minerals. The Hip & Joint formula lists chicken, sweet potato and chicken liver, plus glucosamine hydrochloride, chondroitin sulfate, salmon oil and flaxseed. The Skin & Coat formula uses beef as its main protein and lists beef, sweet potato, beef liver, salmon oil, cranberry, dried beet root, flaxseed and dried kelp.

On PetSmart's product pages, all three guarantee at least 25 percent crude protein and about 19 to 20 percent crude fat. The joint formula guarantees a minimum of 110 mg/kg glucosamine and 75 mg/kg chondroitin sulfate. The brand says the toppers support things like digestion, joints and coat. Those are the brand's claims, not findings we have checked.

What it means if you feed Kismet

If you already feed Kismet, the big change is where you can buy it. The recipes themselves do not appear to have changed, based on what Pet Age and PetSmart describe. If you order from the brand's website now, it is unclear whether prices or bag sizes there will match what PetSmart lists.

We have not yet reviewed any Kismet recipe, so we have no label analysis of our own to share right now.

What to check on the bag

With the toppers, read the nutritional adequacy statement on the container. PetSmart's pages describe them as toppers to shake over food, but the pages we read did not show whether they are labeled for intermittent or supplemental feeding. Treat them as an add-on, not a meal, unless the label says otherwise. They are also calorie dense: PetSmart lists about 31 to 33 calories per tablespoon. That adds up if you use them every day, so you may need to cut back your dog's regular food a little.

With the dry food, check that the protein you want is listed first. If your dog does not do well with chicken, note that PetSmart calls the salmon recipe chicken-free, and confirm that on the ingredient list of the bag you pick up.
