Pedigree recalls two lots of chicken and duck canned dog food

What happened

Mars Petcare announced a voluntary recall on July 2, 2026, for two lots of Pedigree Can High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor wet dog food. Mars says the cans failed its safety and quality checks and were sent to a third-party vendor for destruction. The company later learned that the product appeared to have been diverted and sold in the United States.

The recalled food may contain sharp metal and plastic. Mars says swallowing those objects could cause choking, cuts or a blockage in a dog’s digestive tract. In its July 2 notice, the company said it had received no related reports of pet illness or injury. That statement describes reports at the time of the notice, rather than the number reported today.

Which food is affected

This is a lot-specific recall of 13.2-ounce cans, not a change to the Chicken & Duck recipe. The affected lot codes are 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC. Top Class Actions reported that the recall covered 185,184 cans. Mars’s notice says no other Pedigree or Mars Petcare products are included.

Pedigree describes this as a wet food for adult dogs. Walmart still lists the Chicken & Duck product, but a retailer listing cannot show whether any particular can has a recalled code. Mars has not identified the stores or sellers that handled the diverted cans, so where owners may have encountered them remains unclear.

What it means for Pedigree owners

If this canned food is in your dog’s rotation, check every can, including cans taken from a multipack. The recipe name alone does not tell you whether a can is affected. Owners feeding a different Pedigree recipe should still check its full name before assuming it is the recalled food.

What to check on the can

Look on the bottom of each 13.2-ounce Chicken & Duck Flavor can for the lot code. If it reads 613C3KKCFC or 613C1KKCFC, do not feed the food. Keep the can and its code available when contacting Pedigree Consumer Care at 1-800-525-5273 about a replacement.

Mars advises owners who fed the recalled food and have concerns to contact their veterinarian. Its notice warns that sharp foreign objects can pose a hazard even if the concern is discovered after feeding. The FDA recall page includes photos showing the can and where to find its lot code.
