Purina opens Ohio factory making Pro Plan, ONE and Dog Chow

What happened

Purina officially opened a pet food factory in Batavia, Ohio, on August 31, 2026. The company says it invested more than $550 million in the site, its first factory built from the ground up since 1975. The plant was already making food before the grand opening.

Purina says the factory is producing Pro Plan, Purina ONE and Dog Chow. Those lines include dry dog foods, so this is relevant to owners who feed them. Purina has not said which individual recipes are made in Batavia or where bags from the plant are being sold.

What is new for the food

The change is a new place to make food, not an announced change to a recipe. Purina describes a 1.3 million-square-foot plant with automated storage, digital manufacturing tools and food safety systems. It says the factory is designed to give its production network more flexibility.

The announcement does not introduce a new ingredient, kibble format or life stage. It also gives no timetable for wider availability of any particular dog food. A retailer listing for a Pro Plan, ONE or Dog Chow bag does not establish that the bag came from Batavia. For owners, the plant’s effect on a familiar recipe or a local store shelf remains unclear.

What it means if you feed Purina

There is no announced reason to switch foods because of the opening. Purina named broad brands rather than specific formulas, and it did not report a reformulation. Our reviews assess foods by their labels, so a new factory alone does not change what a recipe’s label tells you.
