Royal Canin launches three fresh veterinary diets for dogs

The frozen, fully cooked recipes cover low fat feeding, selected protein and appetite support through veterinary channels.

What launched

Royal Canin announced its first U.S. Fresh Veterinary Diets for dogs on July 14, 2026. The three recipes are Gastrointestinal Low Fat, Selected Protein Pork Recipe and Appetite Stimulation. They are fully cooked, frozen foods that the brand says provide complete and balanced nutrition.

This is a new veterinary line, not Royal Canin’s first fresh dog food. The brand launched Fresh Health Nutrition for puppies, adults and seniors in 2025. Royal Canin says the new diets are available through participating veterinary practices and veterinary online pharmacies. Its website says clinic sales and clinic online pharmacies are the channels through 2026, with additional veterinary retailers planned for early 2027.

What is different in the recipes

Gastrointestinal Low Fat lists turkey, brown rice, spinach and dried carrots first. Royal Canin says it is designed for adult dogs needing a fat restricted diet. Its label gives a maximum crude fat level of 3.5% as fed. That number is for this frozen recipe and should not be compared directly with a dry food’s percentage without accounting for moisture.

Selected Protein Pork Recipe lists pork, sweet potatoes, kale and russet potatoes first. Royal Canin calls pork its single animal protein source and says the recipe is intended for dogs with certain food sensitivities. The ingredient list also includes fish oil. Unlike the other two new recipes, its nutritional adequacy statement covers all life stages, including growth of large dogs.

Appetite Stimulation lists chicken, russet potatoes, pork, green beans and kale first. Royal Canin describes it as a higher calorie, higher protein option for adult dogs with reduced appetite or weight loss. The label lists 248 calories per cup, compared with 169 for Gastrointestinal Low Fat and 193 for Selected Protein Pork Recipe. Those figures show why the same volume of each food would provide a different amount of energy.

What it means for Royal Canin owners

The launch adds a frozen option for owners whose dogs already eat Royal Canin veterinary food. It does not mean an existing dry or canned recipe has been discontinued. Our reviews cover many Royal Canin foods, but we have not reviewed these three new frozen recipes.

The product pages say the fresh diets can be served as meals or combined with other Royal Canin foods when a veterinarian recommends it. If your dog has a prescribed diet, ask the veterinarian whether a new recipe fits the same feeding plan and how much to serve. The formulas have different calorie levels and intended uses, even though all three carry the Royal Canin name.

What to check on the pack

Read the full recipe name, ingredient list, guaranteed analysis, calorie statement and nutritional adequacy statement. Pay particular attention to animal ingredients if your dog avoids a specific protein. For a low fat plan, confirm the fat limit and feeding amount with your veterinarian rather than relying on the words “Low Fat” alone.

These foods also change the daily handling routine. Royal Canin instructs owners to keep them frozen, thaw them in the refrigerator for 24 hours before serving and refrigerate remaining portions for up to five days. Check the pack you receive for its current directions.
