Ollie adds a limited-time turkey Holiday Feast fresh recipe at Ollie.com and Petco

Ollie's seasonal Holiday Feast recipe is built on turkey and turkey liver and sold while supplies last. A crystal bowl sweepstakes runs through Nov. 3.

What happened

Ollie, a fresh dog food brand that calls itself human grade, has released a seasonal recipe called Holiday Feast. In a Sept. 17 press release, the company said Ollie members could get it first, starting Oct. 6. Online sales opened to everyone on Oct. 8, and Petco stores were to start carrying it Oct. 9. The release says the recipe is available while supplies last during the holiday season.

On Oct. 8, Ollie put out a second release. It pairs the recipe with a sweepstakes for a $1,700 limited-edition crystal dog bowl made with Baccarat. That release says people who buy Holiday Feast meals between Oct. 8 and Nov. 3 are entered in a drawing for one bowl, and that no purchase is necessary. Ollie also says it will donate more than 1,700 meals to Nuzzles & Co, a pet rescue nonprofit.

What is in the recipe

Ollie names turkey and turkey liver as the main protein sources. The two releases list the other featured ingredients a little differently. The September release names sweet potatoes, cranberries, butternut squash, green beans and spinach. The October release lists roasted turkey, turkey liver, butternut squash, green beans, sweet potatoes, potatoes and cranberries.

Neither release gives a full ingredient list in label order or a guaranteed analysis. Ollie's Petco page, when we checked it, still listed only the regular fresh and baked recipes. So it is unclear exactly how the recipe is put together or how its protein and fat levels compare with Ollie's everyday turkey recipe.

Life stage and price

The September release says Holiday Feast is formulated to meet the AAFCO Dog Food Nutrient Profiles for all life stages, including growth of large-breed dogs (over 70 pounds as adults). That means the brand presents it as a complete meal, not a topper or treat. Bryan Angolia, Ollie's dog chef and senior manager of R&D, said: "Holiday Feast takes the obsession to the bowl, giving dog parents a fresh, thoughtfully crafted meal that feels as special as the dog it's made for."

According to the October release, a 2-pack costs $14 on Ollie.com and is only for members. Petco sells single packs for $7.49. Ollie does not give the pack weight in either release, so we could not work out a price per pound.

What it means if you feed Ollie

If your dog already eats Ollie's turkey recipe, the protein will be familiar. The produce and the cranberries are what's new. Since this is a seasonal product, plan for it to run out. If your dog does well on it, you will need to switch back to a regular recipe later.

Any change in recipe can upset some dogs' stomachs, even within the same brand. The usual advice is to mix the new food in gradually over several days. If your dog has a known sensitivity, read the full ingredient list before buying, not just the ingredients the brand features.

What to check on the package

Look for the AAFCO statement and make sure it says all life stages. Read the ingredient list in order. The two releases don't match, so check whether potatoes, spinach or both are in the version you buy. Check the guaranteed analysis for protein and fat, and compare the calorie count with your dog's current food so you can adjust portions. Fresh food has to stay cold, so also check the storage instructions and the use-by date once a pack is opened.

We do not review Ollie's foods yet. We have not seen the Holiday Feast label ourselves, so this story relies on the brand's own descriptions.
