Who Makes It
Earthborn Holistic is a dog and cat food brand made by Midwestern Pet Foods, a family-owned company in Evansville, Indiana, now in its fourth generation of family leadership. Its dog food is sold in three main lines: Grain-Free Classics, Venture Limited Ingredient Diets, and Unrefined Ancient Grains & Superfoods. 1, 2
Where It Is Made
The company says its food is made in four company-owned US kitchens rather than by a contract manufacturer. FDA recall records show Earthborn Holistic products have been produced at the company's Monmouth, Illinois facility. 2, 3
History
Midwestern Pet Foods traces its roots to a small milling company founded in 1926. The company celebrated the 10th anniversary of Earthborn Holistic at SuperZoo 2019, where it also introduced the Unrefined line. In November 2023 it relaunched the dry dog food with new packaging and what it called improved nutrition, while keeping the core recipes. 1, 4, 2
Worth Knowing
In March 2021 Midwestern Pet Foods voluntarily recalled certain Earthborn Holistic, Venture and Unrefined products made at its Monmouth, Illinois plant because of possible Salmonella contamination. No illnesses had been reported at the time of the recall. The brand runs a UPCs for Trees program with Trees for the Future and a TerraCycle bag recycling program, and the company says its dog food bags contain 25% recycled material. 3, 5
