Eukanuba is a premium dog food brand owned by Mars, Incorporated. It is known for performance nutrition for working, sporting and service dogs, and it also sells puppy, adult, senior and weight management formulas. Where It Is Made
Eukanuba says its food is manufactured in the USA. Mars runs its own plants, including a Lewisburg, Ohio factory that opened in 2023 and was built to make both Royal Canin and Eukanuba dog and cat foods. 3, 4
History
Animal nutritionist Paul Iams launched Eukanuba in 1969 as a high-protein line within his Iams company. Procter & Gamble owned the brand from 1999 to 2014. In 2014, Mars bought Iams, Eukanuba and Natura from P&G for $2.9 billion, covering North America and other markets, while Spectrum Brands took over Eukanuba in most of Europe. 5, 6
Worth Knowing
In August 2013, when P&G owned the brand, specific lots of Eukanuba and Iams dry dog and cat foods were recalled for possible Salmonella contamination, and no related illnesses were reported. Eukanuba has been the exclusive dog food partner of Canine Companions, a service dog nonprofit, for more than 30 years, and the partnership was renewed in 2024. 7, 8
